Yin-Yang House - Sketch landscape design

Yin-Yang House is a new 5-bedroom dwelling we are designing for one of our brilliant clients.

We are collaborating with Francis Colella of FFC Landscape Architects and this morning I have really enjoyed reviewing the attached sketch landscape proposal.

The external works have formed an ideal response to the internal spaces, establishing a continuation of the building narrative and experiential conditions as you move through and around this proposal.

The landscape scheme introduces a breakdown of spaces, zones and textures. You can begin to imagine some of the experiences you may have as you journey around this building with a mix of enclosures and openings.

My favourite aspect is the orchard which has been aligned with the main organising space at ground floor level. This subtly introduces a visual axis from front to back. The moment you engage with this property from the street, you have a visual connection which flows straight through one of the main spaces and draws you into the depths of the garden. What a beautiful backdrop, to add drama to the architecture as the seasons change.

The architectural and landscape works have needed to navigate TPO’s and reorganise the tree, hedgerow, and planting layout of this piece of land. In doing so, we have arrived at a proposal which raises the standards of design within this location and critically, provides a biodiversity net gain.

I am fully confident this dwelling and complimentary landscape will be an absolute joy to inhabit and can’t wait to see further design progress.
