M. C. Escher - Metaphysical artwork

The work of M. C. Escher first caught my eye during art class at high school. At that moment, I had no idea I would go on to become an architect.

Rediscovering his work some 20-years later, the fascination remains the same. His work embodies my own interests, combining mathematics, science and art.

His manipulation of surfaces and visual deception presents metaphysical instances. Relating some of his work back to architecture, the spatial and playful nature should be harnessed more frequently. Architecture should capture time and space in a dynamic way, offering exploration and unpredictable environments. Spaces of intrigue and wonder.

I am totally captivated by his work, some of which was created almost 100-years ago. At the right moment upon a future project, I am going to combine M. C. Escher’s artwork with an actual piece of architecture. Until that moment, I will unproductively gaze at the new office wall art.
